Offshore Applications

Sandblasting is essential in the offshore industry because the harsh marine environment can cause significant damage to the metal surfaces of offshore structures, leading to corrosion and deterioration. Without proper maintenance, the integrity of the structure can be compromised, putting the safety of workers and the environment at risk.

The sandblasting process involves several steps, including preparation of the surface, selection of the appropriate abrasive material, and the use of specialized equipment, such as air compressors, blast pots, and hoses. The process can be hazardous. GCS staff are all trained and experienced personnel who are knowledgeable in safety procedures and regulations.

In addition to surface preparation, sandblasting is also used for cleaning and removing contaminants such as rust, old coatings, and scale from offshore structures. The process can improve the efficiency and longevity of the structure by preventing further corrosion and damage.

Overall, sandblasting remains a vital technique in the offshore industry for maintaining the safety and integrity of offshore structures. With the right safety measures and environmental considerations, sandblasting can continue to be an effective method for surface preparation and maintenance in the offshore industry.

Painting

GCS use the highest quality marine grade paint for painting all metal parts, components, booms, cabs, pedestals, blocks, balls, hooks and winches etc.

After the initial sand blasting preparation, the components are then spray painted with a marine quality base primer. Some units are then sent back to the mechanics assembly bay to be reassembled. Once the assembly has been completed, they are sent back to the paint facility to have the final color of marine paint sprayed on. Paint is applied in several coats so the thickness is a minimum of 6 to 10 mils thick. Products can also be sprayed to customer choice of color and specifications with a customer provided paint RAL number.
